Dr Unyime Umoh led training for early career scientists at the 2026 Coastal Ocean Environment Summer School in Nigeria and Ghana (COESSING) at University of Calabar, Nigeria. The program brought together researchers for hands-on laboratory and field training in coastal ocean science.

Representatives of the Institute for Marine and Environmental Sciences Nigeria appeared on a radio program to enlighten the public on the state of our seas, with emphasis on the Gulf of Guinea. Featured guests included Dr. Unyime Umoh, Miss Eno-mfon Bassey, and Dr. Kokoette Effiong, hosted by Captain Iyke on Passion 94.5 FM Uyo.

Dr Unyime Umoh, a science member of IMARENS, participated in the United Nations One Ocean Expedition from Tromsø, Norway to Nice, France aboard Statsraad Lehmkuhl, supported by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

During the One Ocean Expedition, IMARENS researchers conducted oceanographic sampling and water column profiling using CTD rosette systems, contributing to global ocean observation efforts supported by ESA and NASA.
