Long-term observations of Nigeria's marine and environmental systems
IMARENS is developing a network of observatories and field stations to conduct long-term oceanographic and environmental observations across Nigeria's coastal and marine environments. These facilities support evidence-based decision-making and contribute to global ocean observation efforts.
Our observatory program integrates in-situ measurements, remote sensing, autonomous platforms, and environmental data systems to monitor change in marine and coastal ecosystems.
Capabilities
Our field stations are strategically positioned to monitor the Gulf of Guinea — one of the world's most biologically productive yet understudied marine regions. Observations cover coastal ecosystems, open-ocean processes, and the interface between land and sea.
IMARENS field teams conduct regular sampling campaigns using CTD rosettes, sediment corers, and biochemical analysis tools, building datasets that support research across all seven of our research areas.
